Oh the things you can do in 48 hours

So we spent the last 2 days just north of Santiago in Valparaiso (or Valpo as we and the locals call it). For 2 people whose Spanish is offensively limited, we've managed to do a pretty excellent job of navigating Chile. The bus that you take to Valpo is a luxury tour bus with comfortable seating and crappy movies starring Angelina Jolie and her breasts. The company, is called Tur-Bus and I highly recommend it. Plus they leave every 15 minutes from Santiago. Which is great if you're traveling with someone who has the bladder of a 5 year old and almost makes you miss your bus because they have to go pee (I'm of course talking about someone else, who, umm, was not traveling with me. at all).

Anyway, Valpo is this amazing seaside town, with plenty of charm to spare, and some of the friendliest people that you'll ever meet. Make sure you head up to the hills and away from the poor people. The houses are beautifully colored as if some blind person ran around splashing paint everywhere. We stayed in this incredible B&B called Thomas Somerscales, which is full of history, which we didn't bother to read about. It's super cheap with friendly staff, and internet. The only other people staying there were a bunch of French families, who didn't really talk to us.
