It hurts so sweet

This a traditional Chilean drink called mote con huesillo. As described by lonely planet: it is a traditional thirst quencher with rehydrated peaches in nectar and barley kernels. And thirst-quenching it was.

[Note: Thomasin is not included with the price of the drink. She cost extra]

Told you I'm not racist

And just to prove that I have friends from all backgrounds, this is my new friend Joe. He's a llama.

Like Dr. King said, we WILL get to the top of the mountain

...or to the top of that hill. whatever. The point is we spent the day taking a hike to the top of Cerro San Cristobal, atop which sits the famous statue of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception. You can either take a literal hike (which of course we did not) or take the funicular which is basically just a fancy word for cable car.

It was doubtful whether we'd take the funicular since Thomasin is afraid of heights. She spent the whole ride crouched down until we reached the top. It was funny mostly because of the looks on the people's faces standing next to us. While she did not pee her pants, I of course tell everyone she did....because she totally did.

Things not to do at a bar: Part 1

If you are at a bar, do not get drunk, vomit all over the restaurant on the way to the bathroom, then sit back down and have another beer and cigarette. It just kind of looks weird, guy in the brown Michigan hoodie....Idiot

The best I ever had

It's generally customary not to take restaurant advice from a hobo or a backpacker (or a hobo backpacker), which is why I've always avoided taking restaurant advice from the Lonely Planet writers. For food I consult Frommers, and last night they did not disappoint. Amorio, in the Bellavista neighborhood, is classified as contemporary Chilean (whatever that means). But it was amazing, starting with our delicate pieces of octopus to our "asado de tiro estofado". The waiters were super friendly and let us practice our Spanish. That Spanish basically consisted of ordering "agua sin gas" and asking for the check. What fun!!

Food for Thought

Can you spot the 12 differences between these two pictures? The first one to submit correct responses will receive a most magnificent souvenir.

[N.B. Only appropriate responses considered or I will punch you in the face.]

Dancin' on the Ceiling

While there is no sound for the glorious music these guys were producing, the awesomeness that is their purple shirts says more than music ever could. EVER.
